Julian Info

I returned to Occupy Wall Street on the heels of a views piece I had just written for Reporter, which threw into question the conclusions and beliefs I had about what was really going on there. It’s easy to add to the slur of media reportage about “nobody knows their true demands, there are no leaders, etc, etc…”

The seemingly apparent reality was that several free-loaders were passed out in the park after a long weekend of protesting. It was a Sunday morning and the busiest people also appeared the most, “normal.” There was structure present that had not been resolved on the 17th. It was an encampment, and there was a schedule put out on a board every day, with info tables, an aid station, a media booth, phone chargers, and a kitchen for feeding the group and doing dishes.

Then I found Julian Info, or Julian Trezise. He’s a between-jobs house painter from Keuka Lakes who had arrived at the protest at 1am that morning. Although I again didn’t execute the idea of a “day in the life” of Julian, I managed a few interesting moments as he became oriented with the protest.

The next two assignments are again, “A Day in the Life…” Time to rise up, cast aside distractions, and actually do the work.
